The demand for a university in Malakand Division felt since 1972 but due to political polarization and “district animosity” this ideology not implemented till 2001. Find out for yourself. But Credit goes to Iftikhar Hussain Shah who came up with the idea. So Establish a university on an existing site. After consultation with the top officials of PIDC, he formally announced the establishment of the university in August 2001. The services of his advisor Prof. Dr. Hoss Kakakhel in this regard never forgotten. Following the announcement, the provincial law department raised some legal issues regarding the establishment of a university in PATA (Provincial Administrative Tribal Areas).
